Event
Distribution Engineering Series - System Modeling & Analysis and System Planning
June 05 - June 09, 2023 322 North Spokane Falls Court, Spokane, WA, USA
The focal point of this week-long class will be modeling the system and interpreting the results. This module will cover theory used to model distribution systems, including system impedance models, connectivity, loading the model, calculation of voltage drops, and load currents. You will learn how to set planning criteria, and most importantly, how to project and grow a sample system model and solve common system problems such as low voltage and/or excessive load current. Together, the class will discuss methods of how to place fixed and switched capacitor banks and work through class problems.
You will also focus on the development of short- and long-range plans for distribution systems. There will be a thorough review of how to prepare a present worth analysis. Methods to determine discount rates, carrying charges, and interest rates will be discussed. Methods for factoring reliability in the planning process will also be covered. Estimating new construction options will be discussed and shall include budgeting for new service extensions.
